For Michelle Carlton, serving as Commissioner of the Keystone Region Volleyball Association (KRVA) is both a privilege and a purpose. “I’m responsible for all aspects of the region,” she explains. “I actually started out as the girls’ representative, then was voted into the Treasurer position, and eventually into the role of Commissioner.”

Carlton’s path to leadership was rooted in her lifelong love of sports. “I played sports in high school, which was very rewarding,” she says. “I gained friendships and had wonderful coaches who inspired me.” Those early experiences helped shape her belief in the power of athletics to build confidence and community—values that guide her work today.
When asked what she finds most rewarding about working with KRVA, her answer is immediate. “I love to see and hear the experiences of the children and parents,” she shares. “I want every one of our members to have a positive and memorable experience.”
Carlton describes KRVA in three simple words: “Fun, competitive, and growing.” That sense of momentum keeps her motivated to continue building opportunities for players, coaches, and officials across Pennsylvania.
She’s also quick to point out what makes the region so distinctive. “Every region [of USA Volleyball] is unique,” she says. “I’m still learning about Pennsylvanians and hope I continue to do so. Pennsylvania is a beautiful state with so much diversity of landscapes.”
