This is a BIG decision and we’ve got your back!
While the Keystone Region sets an allowable start date for tryouts, each club selects their own tryout schedule. We encourage you to contact each club directly to determine how their tryout process will work. You’re figuring out what age division you need to play in. You’ve identified up a few clubs in your area. Now for the hard part: picking just ONE club to play for during the upcoming season.
This is a big decision. Club volleyball requires an investment of both time and money. It is a good idea to find out as much as you can about your different options before making any decisions.
Remember to avoid assumptions as you start this process. Don’t assume a big club is better than a small club. Don’t assume a volunteer coach is better than a paid coach. Don’t assume the right fit for your friend is the right fit for you. Talk to several different clubs as you start to gather information.
Sit down as a family and figure out which clubs match your player’s goals, commitment level, financial situation, etc. Once you have picked several top choices, buy a membership through the Keystone Region/USAV and select the tryout membership option. This enables you to participate in region programming (such as tryouts). Please note you will ALSO need to register for the tryout through each individual club as they are a separate organization.
Attend tryouts for several of your top choices if possible. One club may decide to offer you a roster spot while a different club may not. Trying out for several clubs gives you options and a “safety net” in case your top club does not offer you a spot.

It’s important to be aware of the process and costs associated with attending tryouts for club volleyball in the Keystone Region. Here is a summary of the key points:
- Tryout Membership Requirement: To attend tryouts in the summer or late fall, players who do not already have an KRVA/USAV membership for the current season must purchase a $15 Tryout Membership with USA Volleyball (USAV) and the Keystone Stone Region (KRVA). This membership provides secondary medical insurance for the player and liability insurance for the club. Sale of 26-27 Tryout Pass opens July 1st.
- Coverage and Limitations: The Tryout Membership allows players to participate in ALL KRVA/USAV sanctioned tryouts. While the Tryout Membership covers insurance, most clubs typically charge additional fees for trying out to cover the costs of running a tryout.
- Registration for Regular Season Membership: Registration for Regular Season Membership for each season begins in early September. A regular season membership allows for a club to register your child with said club and also allows participation in club events and tournaments throughout the season.
- Payment Process: If a player needs to purchase a Tryout Membership or Regular Season membership, they can do so on the membership page. Additionally, players should be prepared to pay the tryout fees directly to the club hosting the tryout.
Understanding these procedures and costs can help families prepare for the tryout process and ensure that their child has the necessary memberships and insurance coverage to participate safely.
