Emilee Murtaugh is a hard-working student-athlete from B. Reed Henderson High School in West Chester, PA, juggling academics, athletics, work, and volunteering each week. She is also one of this year’s scholarship recipients. She began her volleyball career in the 7th grade when she nervously entered her middle school gym interested in playing volleyball and not knowing a single soul. Five years later and now with club volleyball experience under her belt, Emilee will attend Cabrini College and join the Women’s Volleyball team.
Emilee credits her volleyball experience for teaching her time management and organization skills. She feels this will be crucial in allowing her to play collegiate volleyball, maintain good grades, and enjoying her overall college experience.
We wanted to learn a little more about Emilee and share this brief Q&A with her here:
What are some things you’ve learned about yourself from volleyball?
I’ve learned that I am extremely competitive and that my attitude can affect others on and off the court.
Who is your most influential role model and why?
The most influential role model I’ve had has been my high school coach, Greta Neff. She has taught me to never give up, and she puts so much effort into everything she does. She is fully committed to her family, her job, and her players.
Do you have a favorite tournament experience?
The Sunshine Classic tournament in Florida was my favorite tournament. Getting to know my teammates and having a ton of laughs made it extremely memorable. Being in Florida in April also made it a lot of fun because there was so much we could do together in Orlando.
What would most people be surprised to learn about you?
I think people would be surprised to learn that I only started playing club volleyball in my freshman year of high school.
What are three activities you enjoy outside of volleyball?
I love going to the beach, hanging out with friends, and trying new foods.
